Nameko Mushrooms

Also known as Pholiota Nameko.
Scientific name Pholiota Microspora.

Nameko is a small, amber-brown mushroom with a slightly gelatinous coating that is used in miso soup and nabemono.

Nameko is a slow grower and needs time. It starts colonising from April and grows well until November.

It grows better fully mature. If opened when fully mature,  after three weeks the pins start to grow.  It needs to be very wet for fruiting. I have drenched the kit (throwing water over it once a day until it was fully wet) for a few days running to stimulate growth. Nameko needs more moisture than others and dries out quickly. It prefers colder/lower temperatures, below 20 degrees, but does better below 18 degrees.

They will grow well outside in cold weather. They need to be in a covered area if grown outside, so the caps are not exposed to rain. If you do not have a covered area, you can put them in a container with a lid that is left partially open for airflow, but prevents rain on the caps which will make the caps soggy.

Special instructions:

Must be kept very wet and indoors or outdoors.  Be careful not to allow the small pins to dry out. If kept outdoors, do not let it get soaked by rain. Under a covered patio works well.  If the temperature drops below 150C at night, move the log inside.
